Ask Jon’ette: What do brides regret the day after?

On January 18, 2011

Today’s question comes via Twitter“What do brides regret the day after?  What matters in the end?”

Without question, the biggest source of a bride’s regret the day after the wedding is the amount of time she spent worrying unnecessarily.  I know, “easier said than done, Jon’ette”.  After I break it down for you, it will be a lot easier than you think.

When you become engaged, you search for necessary components that meet your needs and standards – venues, caterers, floral designers, wedding planners, musicians, DJs, and the list goes on.  The reason you do this is because you realize:

A) you’re incapable of performing all of those duties simultaneously,

B) you’re too inexperienced or not knowledgeable enough to handle all of those details without assistance,

C) you don’t know what you’re doing in one or more of those areas OR

D) all of the above

You ask countless questions of all the wedding professionals you interview to ensure that you choose the vendors you feel truly know what they are doing and understand your style and needs, right?  Ultimately, you’re going to hire vendors you feel will make your wedding day a smashing success, right?  So I ask you this question.  Why would you then turn around and worry about whether or not they’re going to do their jobs and do them well?  Brides, trust that you have made the right decisions in hiring your wedding professionals.

For example, did you hire a floral designer?  If so, you likely explained to him/her which flowers you like and dislike.  You outlined your style and described your vision to him/her.  Now, allow them to do what you chose them, in particular, to do.  Something about their work stood out to you enough to open up your check book and pay a deposit to that florist.  Trust and allow them to create something special for you in the way that only they can….which is why you hired them in the first place.

If you worry and second guess everything your vendors are doing for you, I promise you that it won’t even take a day for the regret to hit you.  As your wedding reception is in full swing and you’re having the time of your life, you’ll wish it didn’t have to end.  Then you’ll wish that you were back in the planning stages…the stages where had you not worried yourself silly, you could have enjoyed your wedding that much more.  Wedding vendors are paid to worry and stress for you…and they love it.  They want to take care of you.  Let them!

Take their advice.  Trust their advice.  Most importantly, trust yourselves and stop worrying:)
